Thanks Chris. Yes, it seems that Irish conifer plantations are just longing to show us how quickly they can transform into real forests, given half a chance. It takes a few brave souls like Paddy Purser and Liam Byrne who are long enough at forestry here to know it's going to work. Great to hear that your clients are beginning to show more interest. Your own enthusiasm for the work will ripple out, I'm sure.

Its a great tribute to those long term members of pro-silva that after only 12 years there is now such an understanding of these topics- well done to you all. More and more people who I work with now are saying 'tell me more about this continuous cover thing......'.

Hello Bogdan. I'm so sorry I didn't see your comment from 2010. I haven't even looked on my poor neglected Local Forest Log blog site for two years. I hope you found the timber you were looking for. All the best, Jan

Thanks Neil for your comments. I was interested to hear about you firewood production. Sorry I didn't get back to you. I've neglected my blog site over the last couple of years entirely and just peeped into it today and saw your comment. I'm sure you have your firewood machines bought and in place by now. The firewood market has really expanded here in Ireland over the last decade. It's amazing to see the value placed on hardwood thinnings for firewood now. It really helps in the establishment costs for someone starting off a permanent, productive forest. Best of luck with your trees. All the best, Jan

Hi Mick, as you can see, I abandoned my blog site for a couple of years. Just taking a peep in now and found your comment and link. Gosh, - what a lot of work, especially without their use of any pioneer trees to help things along. But I'm sure they'll have success and other species are bound to creep in on their own in time. Thanks for sharing it, and thanks for reading my site. All the best, Jan

Thanks Darryl for your encouragement. Bit late getting back to you! I'm just re-visiting my poor neglected blog site after an absence of a couple of years. Time flies when you're working your butt off at other stuff :-)

Thanks Geoff. Have you checked out the Pro Silva Ireland website? You might like to come to one of the forest visits. We run them in April and October. One of the founders of Pro Silva Ireland is now living near Sydney and working for the NSW Forest Service, so I hear bits and pieces of some of the changes slowly taking place. Change is slow, - especially in forestry. Thanks again. Jan
