This site is about changing the face of Irish forestry. I want to tell others who don't know, that there is another way to manage forestry plantations for timber production without cutting down the very forest that the timber grows in. It's about trees and forestry. It's about my observations in woodlands, watching how they grow and how they evolve and where the human being fits in to this picture. I'll be writing about forestry events; Pro Silva Ireland forest visits; the Local Project in the South Leitrim area; and my own experiences in managing forests in the Cavan/Leitrim area. I hope you enjoy the Local Forest Log and I hope you find something interesting enough to pass on. Do tell others about my ideas but note my writing is licensed not to be copied or re-used!

Jan this is the makings of a great site; I wish I had encountered it earlier. I feel I need to interact more with people concerned with the farm-forest interface, and the organic farming movement, and the problem of how to relate these to the urban market.
