In the South Leitrim area, since the ‘local project’ started 15 years ago and with recent interest generated by the ‘local project’ film an exhibition in 2006, local woodland owners and users came together to create a Local forest directory. This directory was produced by the Leitrim Organic Farmers’ Co-Op and funded by the Leitrim Partnership, Drumshambo.
Woodland/Forest growers, forest managers and timber users are listed and you can goto the online network directory at www.localforestlinks.ning.com or request a paper directory from myself. You can also list yourself and your skills on this website.
The aim of the directory is to highlight and support the growing forest-linked community in this area. Please tell others about it and use it to build your knowledge. Questions can be directed to the members in forums or you can email individuals.

The local forest directory does not currently appear to be accessible via the hotlink above. Perhaps this is temporary? I note the organic farmers co-op link. This concept has development potential. I would like to contact it and perhasps arrange a visit. Does their marketing go via a network of boxmen? The link between local organic food production and the urban consumer needs to be developed somehow in co-operative mode.
Thanks for this Roy. Unfortunately the Local Forest Directory was to go on-line, but the person setting it up had to leave it for health reasons. It is on my site and I can’t find a way to remove it. I don’t know if the Organic Farmers run a box network. Check their website, – it might be on there. ATB Jan
